Lainie L – CVS Pharmacy

Lainie L. Finds everything she could possibly ever need at the CVS.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

As a lifelong insomniac, this Long’s has become my own special little bottle of Valium, Lunesta, Ambien and Excedrin PM wrapped into one fabulous, boxy old building.

When I can’t sleep, I don’t sit around thinking about how I can’t sleep, I get in the car and drive.  Invariably, I end up at Long’s. .. who knows. . perhaps I need a box of live lady bugs to rid my garden of aphids (they have it) or I want to finally put my camping kit together (they have everything I might need)  or I feel the need to peruse different foods from Italy, Israel or Spain (they have a little international food section that rivals Cost Plus) but my favorite thing to do at this Long’s is to see what other people are buying at 3:30 in the morning.  I kind of stalk people up and down the aisles.  I can always pick out the ones who needs something quickly. . . I can them the in and out people. .. diapers, milk, tampons or condoms. . .and they’re out.  Then there are the swing shift folks. . just getting off work and shopping for everyday items and picking up things they didn’t know they needed.  There is the lonely hearts club . . .carton of ice cream, bag of M&M’s, can of Chef Boyardee Ravioli and a liter of Jack Daniels (only before 2am).  Then, there are the freak show shoppers. . . people that are either hired assassins (unlikely) or up to no good (very likely).    My favorite cart contained the following:

  • 2 pkgs. Magnum Condoms
  • 2  feather dusters
  • 2 bottles of Astroglide
  • 2 cans of Reddi-whip
  • 1 length of rope
  • 1 Homedics Electric Back Massager
  • 1 bag of clothes pins
  • a set of jumper cables
  • 2 rolls of plastic wrap
  • a tarp

As the checker ran these items across the little scanner, she kind of watched as each item passed.  Looked up at the guy buying it,  then looked up at me and raised her eyebrow.  I raised mine back.   I could see she was suppressing a smile.  As he paid and left and I stepped up to the register and we both started giggling like school girls.

I love this place!

P.S. – I get my Christmas tree here every year. . .where else can you get a gorgeous over  6 foot tree for $24.99?
